8 Healthy Habits of Successful Slimmers

Whether it’s healthy or unhealthy, a habit is something you do without having to think about it. Instead of relying on willpower, people who succeed at weight-loss have learned to turn healthy eating into a habit. Here’s how:

  1. They eat breakfast

Studies show that 80% of slimmers who were able to maintain a weight loss of at least 13 kg for a year reported that they always eat breakfast. Eating a healthy breakfast reduces hunger throughout the day, therefore decreasing the likelihood of overeating and making poor choices at lunch.

  1. They drink water

Not cooldrinks. Not juice. Just good old water. Drinking enough water is incredibly important because it keeps your body functioning properly. Drink at least 6-8 glasses a day, plus more when exercising.

  1. They’ve changed how they talk about food

Instead of saying “I can’t eat that”, successful slimmers say, “I don’t eat that.” Saying I can’t can make you feel deprived, whereas I don’t seems like a choice and puts you in charge.

  1. They eat whole foods

Successful slimmers are in the habit of eating mainly whole, unprocessed foods with lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains at least 80% of the time.

  1. They reduce temptation

Willpower is finite, so if they know that they can’t control themselves around a certain food or treat, they keep them out of sight, or even better, out of the house.

  1. They plan their meals

In order to stay on track, it’s vitally important to have a strategy for meals and snacks. Successful slimmers know what time of the day they’re typically hungry, and pack healthy snacks to prevent straying from their eating plan.

  1. They understand portion sizes

Slim people know what a serving of various foods look like. Portion control is one of the most important things to remember as even healthy food eaten in excess can cause unwanted weight gain.

  1. They enjoy a small treat

Successful slimmers know that banishing all their favourite foods could make them feel deprived and lead to failure. A drastically limited diet is not sustainable, and savouring a small treat every now and then will not sabotage your weight-loss efforts.
